Care for Sick & Injured
at Great Oaks Veterinary Hospital

When your pet suddenly becomes ill or injured, you need a veterinary team you can trust—and you need them now. At Great Oaks Veterinary Hospital, we understand how stressful these moments can be, and we’re committed to providing prompt, compassionate care when your pet needs it most.

Same-day appointments may be available for sick and injured pets, and if we can’t work your pet in at Great Oaks, we may be able to see them at our sister location, Overton Veterinary Hospital, for faster service.

Call Ahead So We Can Prepare

We strongly encourage you to call before arriving with a sick or injured pet. This helps our team prepare for your arrival, begin triage immediately, and ensure that we have the right space, equipment, and staff ready to help.

Just like a human hospital, critical cases are seen right away, even if it means rearranging our schedule.

What to Expect When You Arrive

When you arrive with an ill or injured pet, our team quickly begins an initial evaluation to determine the urgency of their condition.

Here’s how the process typically works:

  • Immediate triage to assess whether your pet needs urgent stabilization—for example, oxygen support or rapid pain relief.
  • Gathering client and patient information, especially if you’re new to our hospital, so we can begin treatment quickly.
  • Providing initial pain management when appropriate to keep your pet as comfortable as possible.
  • Determining whether there is time to create an estimate or whether emergency stabilization must begin right away.
  • Developing a diagnostic and treatment plan, which may include bloodwork, imaging, or further monitoring depending on your pet’s condition.

Our goal is always the same, we’re here to get your pet the help they need as quickly as possible.

Stabilization, Hospitalization, or Referral

Many pets can be stabilized and treated right here at Great Oaks Veterinary Hospital. Some may need monitoring, follow-up care, or diagnostic testing to determine the next steps.

If your pet requires hospitalization or advanced urgent/emergency care beyond our scope, we will help you transfer them to MedVet Mobile Emergency & Specialty Hospital, located nearby for immediate support. MedVet Mobile is fully equipped for emergency care, including trauma, critical care, advanced imaging, and intensive monitoring.
