Wellness & Preventive Care for Your Pet’s Best Life
At Great Oaks Veterinary Hospital, we believe that the foundation of a long, happy, healthy life for your pet lies in proactive care. Regular wellness and preventive visits allow us to catch issues early, keep your pet comfortable, and strengthen the bond you share.
Why Wellness Visits Matter
Your pet can’t always tell you when something’s wrong, and they age much faster than we do. Through routine check-ups and preventive interventions, we significantly increase the chances of early diagnosis and effective treatment of diseases, sometimes before your pet shows symptoms.
What to Expect During Your Visit
Our comprehensive wellness and preventive care program helps to thoroughly monitor every aspect of your pet’s well-being:
- Complete nose-to-tail exam, including heart, lungs, skin, eyes, ears and teeth
- Discussion of lifestyle, diet and environment for recommendations tailored to your pet’s unique needs
- Core vaccinations and parasite screenings, with booster or lifestyle vaccines as appropriate
- Diagnostic monitoring—bloodwork, parasite detection, tick-panels (for dogs) and other lab tests to monitor internal health
- Microchipping and scanning for existing chips—valuable for identification and required for certain certifications
- Preparation and issuance of health certificates for domestic and international travel, showing your pet meets the required screenings and treatments

Health Certificates—Travel and Beyond
If you’re planning to transport your pet across state lines or travel internationally, we’ll handle the paperwork. A Certificate of Veterinary Inspection (health certificate) confirms that your cat or dog has been screened for parasites and infectious disease, and meets the destination’s requirements. This service gives you the freedom to travel or relocate with confidence.
How Often Should You Visit?
For most pets, we recommend an annual wellness exam at a minimum, paired with a mid-year check-in when needed. For senior pets, more frequent visits become increasingly important.
